OUR STORY
“Created by my father John Moffat in 1974, Nutshell originated as a specialist vending and beverage supply business, then known as Intex, and continues today his original desire and vision to have the customer at the heart of everything we make and do. Ever the entrepreneur, seeing an opportunity in portion production, Nutshell was formed in 1989 as a dedicated single portion printing and packing facility, utilising brand-new equipment and top-quality ingredients and packaging materials.
The business has grown with the hard work and dedication of our teams over the last 30 years to become established throughout the UK and Europe, through its dedication to developing trusted working relationships, offering a first-class service, and quality innovative design and products. This passion for the customer and a commitment to continuous improvement has created the Nutshell we know today. We have grown to be a thriving multi-skilled business, ready and able to join you on your portion journey, be it personalised, generic or leading brand.
We look to the future focused on ensuring long term trusted partnerships with both suppliers and customers, yet fixed firmly on our development in delivery of creative, quality, cost effective, market relevant solutions. We recognise the challenges raised by environmental concerns and are dedicated to reducing the impact of our products, and particularly to developing fully environmentally neutral solutions where possible.
We are committed to both ethically sourced products and to ensuring improving welfare standards in our supply chain, whilst providing rewarding and opportunities and for our staff. We donate generously to Charities and support our staff and customers in this, as part of our ethos of giving.
In doing this, Nutshell Portions continues my father’s original mission of offering an unrivalled and personal service, underpinned by being a great company to work for and a constant enthusiasm and commitment for putting the customer first.”

DOING OUR BIT
We are dedicated to reducing our impact on the environment.
To this end, we have been actively sourcing and developing new products, materials and processes to enable us to do this and provide our customers with a range of solutions. These include targeted actions such as:
Continuously reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill
Reducing our carbon footprint by recycling waste packaging materials such as plastic, wood, metal, paper and cardboard
Offering compostable packaging solutions and materials from sustainable sources
Investing in the latest energy-efficient production equipment, technology and environmental controls
We've made the switch so our factory now uses 100% Green Electricity.
